Goaldi Mosque
The Goaldi Mosque, built during the Sultanate
period, is located 6 km
northwest of Panam Nagar. Which
is also known to the locals as Ghaidi
Mosque or Goaldi Shahi Mosque. This
prehistoric mosque was built during
the reign of Sultan Alauddin Hussain Shah
(1414-1519) and was built
by Mollah Hijabar Akbar Khan. Numerous
tourists flock to Goaldi Mosque
to see it.
The
infrastructure of the mosque
Built in 1519, the single-domed mosque has only
one entrance. The
area
of this historic mosque is 7.92 meters and the
surrounding walls are 1.61
meters thick. Both of the three arches
built in this mosque are made of
brick. And the rest of the central arch made of
black stone is built at
the main entrance. Moreover, the central arch
is comparatively large,
beautiful with carved floral and Arabic designs. In
the four corners of the
mosque are four towers built in the Sultanate
style. In
addition, there are
five arched entrances inside the mosque, three
on the east side and one
on the north-south side. Which is currently
filled with bricks. The
stone
carvings on the tomb of Sultan Gias Uddin Shah
bear a striking
resemblance to the carvings on the brick
surfaces of the mosque. In
the
analysis of history, the inscription from Goaldi
Mosque is one of the
inscriptions preserved from Sonargaon during the
reign of Sultan Alauddin
Hussain Shah. Moreover, during the reign
of this Sultan, there was a
great deal of excellence in education, art and
literature.
How
to go to Goaldi Mosque
However, since my post is
written for foreign tourists, the address was
given from Dhaka Airport:
Step-1: From Shahjalal International
Airport to Gulistan by Uber .
Step-2: From Gulistan, get on the bus again at Mograpara Crossroads. From Mograpara
Crossroads, you can take a rickshaw directly to Panama City.
Step-3: Then you have to go to Goaldi Mosque by renting a
rickshaw
for
15-20 Taka. But if you want, you can
take the whole trip on Uber. However, the cost will increase a lot.
Note:Uber is not the only vehicle to travel there. There are many more
vehicles to get there such
as:local bus, AC bus, CNG,train and Pathao etc.
Let me say one thing here,
there is always a traffic jam in Dhaka so if you
want to get some relief
from this traffic jam, you can take a train or a train.
I think it will be somewhat
effective to get relief from traffic jams.
Warnings:
1. Always
be careful as the mosque is along the road.
2.The place is quite secluded so keep a watchful eye around. However, there is nothing to fear. The place is
a bit secluded as it is surrounded by a sanctuary of rural
environment.
3. Avoid doing anything that pollutes the
environment as much as possible.
Conclusion: In
1975, when the mosque was on the verge of destruction, the Department of Archeology of
Bangladesh came forward to maintain the mosque. The Arabic
ornaments discovered on the bricks and stones of the mosque have
given the mosque a special uniqueness. Pre-Mughal architecture, the
mosque is a unique example of the Muslim tradition, one of the
witnesses Goaldi.
